With Protrude Flow, we pursued to express the dynamic movement and shape of magnetic fluid; art that form organic abstract shapes.
In Pulsate, we situated the fluid in a familiar setting, where one is able to find and associate with everyday, ordinary objects. By creating this environment, the magnetic fluid creates a space where people’s thoughts can mingle together.
The central stage setting of Pulsate is a table because eating is one of the most essential and necessary activities for human beings. Black fluid placed in a white dish ripples its surface when conversation between people around the able is started. This fluid movement is able to further stimulate people’s conversations.
The floor is covered with white sand while fluorescent lamps emit light from the ceiling. This fills the exhibition room with white light. The table is also white with several white chairs around it and at the center of the table is a large white dish holding the black fluid.
This fluid is the only black substance in the entire room since everything else is white.
Because the fluid calmly pulsates in sync with the environmental sound, such as the spectator’s voice, the more amplified the sound becomes, the bigger the waves ripple and eventually splashes in the air.Pulsate is an interactive installation that reflects our desire to communicate with other people, represented by the movement of the fluid found in the dish.
